We’ve scattered symbols through our towns and cities in the hope they will protect us from anguish and calamity, our ever growing comfort derived from words like “praying” and “hoping” in the face of natural and social disasters continues its growing presence in our daily amicabilities. My “hope” is to capture the subtle moments when the symbols transcend their own canon and become, with different formal qualities, symbols of our very own absurdity and triviality.
